Ten Years of Community in Ventanas a San Miguel, six months of the monthly neighbors' newsletter
It has been ten years since some of the neighbors came to live in Ventanas de San Miguel with the hope of finding something different: a place where life would unfold with more calm, more color, more meaning. And we found it. San Miguel de Allende is not just a beautiful setting — it is a living community that transforms, grows, and reinvents itself without losing its soul.
The gardens that were once dirt came alive. Unknown faces became friends. The streets began to have history. Every boulevard, every wall, every court holds a shared anecdote that belongs to us all.
This newsletter was born from the conviction that an informed community is a stronger community. That sharing what happens around us — events, reflections, practical advice — brings us closer.
Community is not built on its own; it is built with intention, with presence, and with a desire to connect.

Mastering the Short Game: Connection Is the Key
By: Javier Muñoz Ledo, Head Pro – Club de Golf Ventanas de San Miguel
One of the most common mistakes in chipping is overusing the hands, which creates inconsistency. To correct it, I’d like to share a fundamental drill: “The Towel Drill.”
The Drill: “The Towel Drill”
  1. The Setup: Place a towel around your torso, holding it firmly under both armpits.
  1. The Feeling: By keeping the towel in place, you’ll feel the total connection between your arms and torso. This unity is key in every short shot.
  1. The Execution: Begin hitting balls toward a target at a maximum distance of 10 yards.
  1. The Movement: The secret is to move only your shoulders. Keep your wrists “locked” or passive for absolute control over the ball’s direction.
Don’t limit yourself to one club. Do this drill while rotating through your wedges to learn the flight and roll of each one:
  • PW: For a shot with more roll.
  • 50º and 56º: Your standard options for control and medium height.
  • 60º: For when you need the ball to stop quickly.

💡 Pro Tip:
“Consistency in golf doesn’t come from strength, but from structure. If you can get your arms and chest to work as one unit, your margin for error around the green will be dramatically reduced.”
See you on the course to keep perfecting your game!

May Horizons: Among Vines, Gallops, and the Art of Living
May is, honestly, one of the favorite months in San Miguel de Allende. There is a magnetic atmosphere of wine, exclusive events, and long weekends that invite you to make the most of them. It is the perfect window of time to enjoy the vineyards without rushing and with a much more personalized experience.
🎉 The Must-See May Agenda
For those of us looking for that balance between the social and the sophisticated, this month offers three fundamental pillars:
May 2
Vendimia Brava
San Francisco Vineyard
The perfect mix of Spanish gastronomy, flamenco, and top-level equestrian shows in a social and relaxed atmosphere.
May 6 to 10 and 13 to 17
Otomí Grand Prix
Otomí Residential Equestrian Center
An international equestrian competition with elite riders. The atmosphere combines elegance and distinction. A local tip: combine the morning in Otomí with lunch at a nearby vineyard!
May 21 to 24
Millesime GNP Weekend
Various Locations
Fine dining experiences with tasting dinners, international chefs, and winemakers. San Miguel positions itself as a first-class gastronomic destination.
📍 Destination Guide: Where Should You Go?
To Impress
Viñedo San Miguel and Viñedos San Lucas. Safe options, visually spectacular, and with very complete services for clients or family.
For the Authentic Experience
Dos Búhos or Viñedo Toyan. Here you will find fewer crowds, more intimate service, and a more genuine connection with the land.

⚠️ Mistakes that ruin the afternoon:
Avoid going without a prior reservation and do not try to visit more than two vineyards in the same day; the wine and landscape of May should be savored calmly.
🧭 The Ideal Itinerary (Tested and Approved)
1
Saturday
Lunch at the vineyard (1:00 PM), a relaxed glass in the cellars, and a light dinner in the Historic Center.
2
Sunday
Relaxed brunch among the vines or a morning of adrenaline at the Otomí event. Simple and balanced.
🏡 Local Insight: The Ventanas Lifestyle
This trio (wine + horses + gastronomy) is no coincidence; it is the lifestyle that defines San Miguel today. For that reason, vineyard areas continue to expand and demand in developments with this quality of life remains stronger than ever.
We hope to see you at some of these events and that you enjoy San Miguel in style!

Resilient Gardens for the Hot Season
As April says goodbye to San Miguel de Allende, the iconic "violet cloud" of the jacarandas begins to fade, leaving a carpet of petals along the paths of Ventanas. That is when the landscape prepares for a vibrant metamorphosis.
In May, the absolute spotlight shifts to bougainvillea, a species that not only survives the intensity of the sun, but proudly embraces its resilience. As "The woman of the garden," I see this change as a dialogue between aesthetics and survival: a transition in which the emerald green of our golf course, designed by Nick Faldo, serves as a canvas for the fiery tones about to burst forth.
The Challenge of May in San Miguel
May is traditionally the most demanding month for the landscapes of the Bajío. We face the most critical point of "deep water stress," with annual high temperatures and minimal ambient humidity. It is the setting of extreme aridity.
In this context, bougainvillea emerges as the ultimate survivor. While other species wilt, it transforms adversity into a visual spectacle, reminding us that, in nature as in life, true strength often blooms under pressure. It is a moment of splendor that coincides with the energy of the Tour Championship, where precision is law, both on the green and in the garden.
The Paradox of Water and Water Stress
In conventional gardening, water is life. However, with bougainvillea we operate under a fascinating technical paradox. While most plants in Ventanas require generous mulch to protect their roots, bougainvillea finds its glory in scarcity.
At Terrazart we have perfected the art of inducing this beauty: abundant watering only produces lush green foliage, but it is water stress that acts as the biological "trigger" for its flowering. When the plant senses a lack of water, it activates its most sophisticated survival mechanism, unleashing spectacular color to ensure its life cycle. Beauty, in this case, is a direct response to challenge.
The Advice of "The woman of the garden"
To master this balance and ensure that your garden not only survives, but stands out, I share my technical guidelines of precision:
Step 1
Rigorous Watering Schedule
Watering must be done strictly at 5:00 AM. At this hour, the plant begins its metabolic activity with the first rays of the sun, taking advantage of hydration exactly when it needs it most and avoiding immediate evaporation.
Step 2
Health Prevention
Night watering for bougainvillea is strictly prohibited. Stagnant moisture in the dark is the perfect invitation for fungal growth. Discipline in timing ensures root health.
Step 3
Terrazart Signature: "Soil Mixology"
This is our concept of custom substrate design. For bougainvillea, we create mixes with perfect drainage, allowing us to control water stress with surgical precision without risking root rot.
Step 4
Red Spider Mite Control
The dry heat of May is the red spider mite's ally. Let your eyes scan the undersides of the leaves, looking for subtle golden speckling or nearly invisible webs. At Terrazart, we offer professional applications of organic pesticides to combat this pest without altering the balance of your home.
Anatomy and Architecture of the Bouquet
What we commonly admire as "flowers" are, in fact, bracts: modified leaves in fuchsia, orange, or crimson that surround the plant's true essence. The true flower is a small, white, discreet jewel sheltered at the center.
We speak of the "architecture of the bouquet" because these bracts are arranged in tight, sophisticated clusters. This structure is no accident; it is a natural design to protect the plant's core from the relentless sun. Under the pressure of heat, bougainvillea organizes itself into clusters of unmatched elegance, giving us a lesson in design and protection.
Survival Strategies: May
Beyond bougainvillea, the rest of your landscape requires specific care to maintain its vigor during this month of extreme aridity:
A Landscape of Resilience and Sophistication
May in Ventanas de San Miguel offers us a visual contrast that is a gift to the senses: the fire of bougainvillea standing out against the immaculate emerald green of the golf course. It is an invitation to observe how nature dresses for the occasion precisely when the environment is most hostile.
If you want your garden to be a testament to health and design even in the most arid conditions, at Terrazart we are at your service to provide consulting, specialized substrates, and the care your natural asset deserves.

Canine Nutrition: The Pillar of a Long and Healthy Life
We often say "we are what we eat," and in the world of dogs, this maxim is absolutely true. The difference between a mediocre diet and quality nutrition can translate into extra years of life, a strong immune system, and a radiant coat.
Why Is Nutrition So Important?
Food does more than provide energy. An appropriate diet directly influences:
  • Joint Health: Especially crucial for large breeds or older dogs.
  • Emotional Balance: There is a gut-brain axis; poor digestion can lead to irritability or anxiety.
  • Disease Prevention: Obesity, diabetes, and kidney problems often begin with poor nutritional choices.
Types of Feeding: From Processed to Natural
Today, the market offers a variety of options. There is no "universal diet," but it is vital to know what we are putting in our dog's bowl.
1. Processed Food (Kibble)
It is the most common option because of its convenience and price.
  • Advantages: Easy to store, balanced according to international standards (AAFCO/FEDIAF), and it slightly helps dental cleaning through friction.
  • Disadvantages: It is highly processed at high temperatures, which degrades natural nutrients. Many contain excess carbohydrates (starches) to give the kibble its structure.
  • Pro Tip: Always make sure the first ingredient is dehydrated or fresh animal protein, avoiding "by-products" or grains as the base.
2. BARF Diet (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food)
It consists of feeding dogs raw foods that mimic what they would eat in nature.
  • Composition: Lean meat, meaty bones, organs, and a small portion of fruits and vegetables.
  • Advantages: Much lighter digestion, smaller and less odorous stools, natural hydration, and a noticeable improvement in dental health and coat shine.
  • Risks: It requires strict hygienic handling and, above all, professional guidance. A poorly balanced BARF diet can cause serious nutritional deficiencies.
3. Cooked Diet (Balanced Natural)
It is the middle ground between convenience and natural feeding. The recipes are formulated by nutritionists and cooked at low temperatures.
  • Advantages: Greater palatability (ideal for picky dogs), high digestibility, and no raw pathogens.
  • Consideration: As with BARF, this is not about giving them our table scraps. It must be a recipe formulated to meet their calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin needs.
Conclusion: Which One Should You Choose?
As a dog lover, my recommendation is always to prioritize the quality of the ingredients over the format. If you choose kibble, select the highest possible range. If you decide to make the leap to natural feeding (BARF or cooked), do it with the guidance of a veterinary nutritionist.
Remember: Investing in their bowl today saves on veterinary bills tomorrow. In our next chapter, we’ll talk about the transition process.

Fats: Your Guide to a Healthier Plate
Fats are an essential macronutrient, vital for energy, vitamin absorption, cell formation, and organ protection.
However, not all fats are equal: some promote health, while others increase the risk of disease. Making informed choices about the fats in your diet is fundamental to overall well-being.
Best Fats for Humans
Prioritize natural, unprocessed fats that support cardiovascular health and reduce inflammation.
Monounsaturated Fats (MUFA)
Key for heart health. Avocado, olive oil, almonds, walnuts, and peanuts. They reduce LDL cholesterol, increase HDL, improve glucose control, and protect the heart.
Omega-3
Salmon, sardines, tuna, chia, flaxseed, walnuts. They reduce triglycerides, decrease inflammation, protect the heart and brain, and improve the immune system.
Omega-6
Corn, sunflower, and soybean oil. They help reduce cholesterol and support cellular functions, but should be balanced with Omega-3.
Worst Fats for Human Consumption
These fats should be limited or avoided due to their harmful effects on health.
Trans Fats ⚠️
These are the most harmful to the heart and should be avoided at all costs. They are found in industrial margarines, fast food, pastries, and ultra-processed products. They increase LDL cholesterol, decrease HDL, raise the risk of heart attacks, and promote inflammation.
Saturated Fats 🔶
Although not as harmful as trans fats, their consumption should be moderate. Sources: fatty meats, processed meats, full-fat dairy, fried foods. They increase LDL cholesterol and raise the risk of cardiovascular disease.
General Summary
Final Conclusion
The key is not to eliminate fats, but to choose the right ones. Prioritize avocado, olive oil, fish, and nuts. Reduce your intake of saturated fats and eliminate trans fats. A balanced diet with healthy fats is fundamental for better cardiovascular, hormonal, and metabolic health.

Isabel & Paulina Gallardo
Commitment, respect, quality, teamwork, and sustainability are the values that define our company
With great pride, we present the business journey of Isabel and Paulina Gallardo López, two admirable women who are also sisters, creative and visionary, united by the same legacy, which was founded more than 30 years ago by their parents, whom they remember and keep present in every step they take with their successful brand "San Miguel Shoes".
Photo: LF La Revista | Location: Instituto Allende
A Brand Born from Love and Necessity
Through hard work, constant innovation, and their passion for design, over the years Isabel and Paulina have managed to build a strong team and cross borders with their prestigious brand "San Miguel Shoes," which is the face of the second generation of a globally recognized company that was born in the heart of the beautiful and international city of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato.
Isabel Gallardo
"What drives me is being a woman of change. Since I was a child, I discovered in myself a love for design; a fascination inherited from my father, from whom I learned to turn ideas into realities. Today, that learning lives in every pair of comfortable, versatile, colorful shoes and a perfect ally for women with every step they take."
Isa combines analytical intelligence with natural empathy. She tends to decide with clarity, lead with firmness, and build with a long-term vision; values she inherited from her mother.
Paulina Gallardo
Paulina loves travel and sports. She finds in physical and cultural movement a constant source of discipline, learning, and perspective. For Pau, leading also means expanding, adapting, evolving, and setting direction. Her leadership balances vision and sensitivity; she guides with clarity and empathy, inspired as well by her parents' example.
The Origin
The "Cocktail Combat Sandals" That Conquered the World
San Miguel Shoes was born as a life and love project between our parents. At that time, our mother could only wear a special type of footwear, and for our father that was a powerful inspiration: to design and manufacture a comfortable, safe, colorful, and durable product to "combat" the streets of San Miguel. Customers nicknamed them "cocktail combat sandals," and that iconic identity inspired the name that accompanies us today.
35 Years of Consistency
The family business, with 35 years of consistency and hard work, has positioned itself and remained a leader in textile elastic footwear, with a wide variety of jute and wedge styles, and today it has more than 100 colors that make each design "magical" and unique, resulting in "pieces that go from day to night with style, lightness, and comfort".
+100 Colors
Each design is unique, magical, and thoughtfully created to accompany women at every moment of the day.
Specialized Footwear
Casual, timeless designs made for women who seek real comfort without giving up a feminine and beautiful look.
Global Reach
A brand born in San Miguel de Allende that now crosses borders with a national and international presence.
Business Vision
Expand, Empower, and Transform
"We want every woman who wants to start a business to find in San Miguel Shoes a real option to grow. We have business models that adapt to different needs, which lead us to create trusted alliances that translate into growth."
As part of their future business vision, the Gallardo López sisters expressed: "We firmly believe that distribution oriented toward the end consumer is an essential part of the experience: when a woman tries them on, she usually falls in love with the comfort from the first step. That is why we are carrying out a national expansion plan, since we want every woman who gets to know the brand to keep it and make it her own."
A Dream with Social Impact
"Our most fulfilling dream regarding the internationalization of San Miguel Shoes would be for every woman anywhere in the world to become aware of foot health and find real benefits in our footwear. On a social level, we would love to build a free school for vulnerable women and those with limited resources who want to learn a trade and transform their lives."

Being entrepreneurial and hardworking women has allowed them to "be a voice and an agent of change, always honoring the women in our lineage. It is no coincidence that our company is made up mostly of women: this allows us to understand their environment, be empathetic, and together with them build changes that improve their lives."
Global Presence
From San Miguel to the World
"What strengthens every woman is breaking the paradigm of 'I can't' and the fear of failure, as well as increasing her tolerance for frustration."
Through this special feature, it became clear to us that both Isabel and Paulina enjoy their work, which, more than an everyday job, is for them an opportunity to realize their potential, their dreams, and the spirit each one brings to what she does.
Isa: "I enjoy creativity. Design in all its expressions is my passion, and here I can explore it without limits."
Pau: "I love creating a close relationship with mothers, who, with their talent and craftsmanship, transform our products into something extraordinary."

The San Miguel Shoes brand has had a presence in important spaces:
